Ben's on the Ballot
Editorial Board
Socialist Party of Indiana candidate Ben Davis is running in Indiana House of Representatives District 13 on a platform of raising the minimum wage, stopping AI datacenters, doubling teacher salaries, overturning anti-trans bills, and cutting off funding for Israel (in April, Indiana governor Mike Braun gave $15 million in taxpayer money to Israeli tech startups). Ben and the Socialist Party are running to unseat MAGA Republican Matt Commons.
Ben’s campaign went door-to-door collecting signatures for ballot access. A team of volunteers, including members of United Front for a Workers’ Party, knocked on 2,378 doors and collected 644 signatures to successfully get on the ballot. As of July 17th, Ben is officially on the ballot, and will be facing down Commons and a Democrat in the general election on November 3rd.
After securing ballot access, Ben led a fundraising push to raise $14,400 to send campaign mailers to every voter in the district. In just two weeks, they raised $14,000. United Front donated the final $400 to hit the target.
For comparison, the incumbent Matt Commons only raised $60,000 in his entire 2024 campaign. Socialists across the country should support Ben’s campaign, and workers in Indiana who want to break with Democrats and Republicans should get involved in building it.
