Seattle Workers' Budget

Stop the Cuts

NO Layoffs • NO School Closures • NO Cuts to Public Services

Help us get 1,000 signatures by September 24!

Seattle City Council is planning sweeping budget cuts because of the $175 million budget deficit. Mayor Katie Wilson has told all departments to model the outcome of 5-10% cuts. The superintendent of Seattle Public Schools is threatening to close public schools because of a $50 million deficit. This is at a time when Amazon’s profits have nearly tripled in five years, now at $77 billion.

Seattle has the highest combined sales tax of any city in the country, after years of lumping on levies, property taxes, utility taxes, sugar taxes to pay for libraries, buses, and schools. Despite this, the City Council is still raising utility taxes for Seattle City Light by 9.5% each year for the next two years. Working people have no more money left to give. To stop the cuts and the downward spiral on the budget, we need to tax the rich.

We demand:

  • NO budget cuts!
  • NO school closures!
  • NO more sales taxes, property taxes, utility taxes, and levies on working class people!
  • Tax Amazon, Microsoft, and wealthy corporations making record profits to close the budget deficit and pay for essential services!
